Information about the Vacuum-assisted Delivery Workshop

Information about the Vacca Research workshops

The Workshops are aimed at all clinicians who perform or teach vacuum-assisted delivery (VAD). There are three types of workshops:
  • the Standard Masterclass in Vacuum Assisted Delivery (three hours duration)
  • the Extended Masterclass in Vacuum Assisted Delivery (six hours duration)
  • the Train-the-Trainers Masterclass in Vacuum Assisted Delivery (three hours duration.
The workshops consist of two parts, namely, an online component – comprising pre-reading, a pre-test, self-paced revision section and a post-test – and a hands on practical session using especially designed models that can simulate a vacuum delivery to a high degree of realism. The practical session of the standard and the train-the-trainers masterclass focuses almost entirely on the  technical aspects of VAD whereas the program of the extended masterclass also addresses other relevant aspects such as indications, appropriate selection of patients, maternal and fetal outcomes and risk reduction measures.

The number of participants per workshop is limited to 10-12 for the standard masterclass, 16-18 for the extended class and 6-8 for the train-the-trainers masterclass.

The online part of the workshop starts with a pre-test about a month before the practical session. When the pre-test has been submitted participants are encouraged to spend as much time as possible in the revision section where extensive reading material about vacuum assisted delivery may be downloaded from the Vacca Research web site link Clinician’s Resources

. Participants will be expected to have read, as a minimum, the ‘Essemtial Pre-reading for the Masterclass’ and ‘Handout – Prerequisites and Technique’. In addition, the ‘Sample Workshop Revision Questions’ will be helpful when answering the Pre and Post test questions.

On the scheduled workshop date, participants attend the hands-on session for practical training. This is then followed by the post test, and, when the post test has been submitted, a Certificate of Completion is generated and becomes available for downloading and printing.

Accreditation

After completing all modules of the workshop participants will be issued with a Certificate of Completion. This certification may be required for accreditation purposes.
  • RANZCOG has approved the standard Masterclass for 2 PR & CRM points and 1 Meeting point provided that Fellows complete all components of the workshop.
  • ACRRM has approved the Masterclass as an Educational Event for 30 PRPD and 30 MOPS PRPD O&G Points Activity Code EEACR-11001_VACC). For allocation of CPD points please fax or email a copy of the Certificate of Completion to the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, Queensland Faculty.
  • RACGP QA & CPD Program has approved the extended Masterclass as an Active Learning Module, Activity No: 752158, approved for 40 Category 1 points (Women’s Health). For allocation of CPD points please fax or email a copy of the Certificate of Completion to the RACGP, Queensland Faculty.

Notification of Coordinator & Participants

The Coordinator of the workshop and all participants will be notified by email that the workshop has commenced and will be provided with instructions on how to proceed through the steps of the workshop. Coordinators should contact all participants to confirm that they have received their enrolment (Workshop Start) email and encourage them to complete the pretest as soon as possible. At the completion of the workshop when all post tests have been submitted a report of the group’s pre and post test results will be provided to the coordinator for distribution to individuals.

Cost

The cost per participant for the standard and extended masterclasses is $250.00, and for the train-the-trainers course $300.00. For this fee each participant will receive the online clinical resources and the hands-on training plus:
